Conflict Minerals Act

The Conflict Minerals Act came into force on November 2013. The initiative for this US Act was aimed to strangle the extraction and smelting of tin, tantalum, tungsten and gold (3TG) in the conflict zone of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and its surrounding states by armed groups abusing women and children and funding terrorist groups worldwide.

The Act requires every company reporting to the SEC to annually publish Conflict Minerals Report explaining their policy and active actions taken to verify the sources of the 3TG in the items composing their products. Companies should take due diligence acts to collect such info from their suppliers and to verify its accuracy and completion.
